Charcos com Vida (Ponds with Life) is a nationwide Portuguese environmental education and citizen science campaign focused on the preservation and rehabilitation of ponds to protect freshwater biodiversity. Coordinated by major scientific hubs including CIIMAR and CIBIO-InBIO, the project launched a dedicated crowdfunding campaign to raise vital funds for financing their ongoing conservation and educational initiatives.
To incentivize public donors and supporters, the project required a striking, high-quality visual asset to be applied across official campaign merchandise.

The Design Directive
The creative objective was to produce a detailed, scientifically accurate illustration of the Beautiful Demoiselle damselfly (Calopteryx virgo) designed specifically for merchandising applications, including apparel, tote bags, and campaign gear.
Combining artistic execution with a background in biology, the illustration meticulously captures the distinctive anatomical features of this specific Odonata species—including its broad, deeply pigmented metallic wings, delicate venation, and striking iridescent body posture. The final artwork was engineered to stand out beautifully on physical products, serving as a compelling visual hook for the crowdfunding drive while allowing donors to proudly showcase their support for freshwater ecosystem protection.
